I certainly did not know it existed. My mother took me to see National Velvet when I was about ten at a school where she thought it would be on a big screen. I enjoyed it but the thing I remember most was that Velvet's, the Elizabeth Taylor character, parents called each other Mr. and Mrs.! I got the book from my school library but the movie was definitely better!CLMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03595294217111602231noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8027299943447728658.post-89325968134076268492022-07-29T08:22:56.293-04:002022-07-29T08:22:56.293-04:00Lady Ruby Maclean reminds me of Zola's Nana in...Lady Ruby Maclean reminds me of Zola's Nana in the way that men are drawn to her. This trait was not a good trait for Nana or for the men who were attracted to her, and it sounds like it wasn't a helpful trait for Lady Ruby Maclean either. Nana was a selfish, unhappy person, and Lady Ruby Maclean does not sound like she was an interesting person either. Funny about it not feeling French because the characters were British. That does happen when travelers abroad clump together too much.Loryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08519976394732029323noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8027299943447728658.post-25124126176474350342022-07-27T15:18:14.790-04:002022-07-27T15:18:14.790-04:00Interesting, even with all the flaws you mention. ...Interesting, even with all the flaws you mention.
