I love so many of his books for so many reasons but my two favorites are actually ones that aren't as popular. I love Travel With Charley for its beautiful exploration of America. I love Cannery Row because Steinbeck is reverred for his bleak portraits of strugglign Americans and this book is the opposite of that. It's funny and embraces a community of people. Yay for Steinbeck! You'd think I'd want to read about Okies, given that I am descended from several. But no.

I've got 6 books now if you count the one I haven't written up yet. And I've got a movie ready to go. :)Jeanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14247515387599954817noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8027299943447728658.post-71254393179071709852014-06-04T12:39:37.736-04:002014-06-04T12:39:37.736-04:00I just finished Cannery Row and absolutely loved i...I just finished Cannery Row and absolutely loved it, although I think that East of Eden is still my favorite Steinbeck. I had never cried so much in my life over a book. Every time I read the last page, the tears came again. I've heard that Steinbeck is depressing. I need to be in the right mood to read depressing works.
