Sounds like I will see a definite maturation process in her work as I go through.Bronahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11110584237325026052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8027299943447728658.post-27826049629181556592019-01-13T14:02:19.630-05:002019-01-13T14:02:19.630-05:00I enjoyed My Antonia, Death Comes for the Archbish...I enjoyed My Antonia, Death Comes for the Archbishop and The Professor's House, but I haven't tried any of Willa Cather's other books yet. This book sounds interesting, but as I still have so many of her others to read I think I'll leave this one until later.Helenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06618973352348296555noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8027299943447728658.post-64416315053639035762019-01-12T07:59:19.609-05:002019-01-12T07:59:19.609-05:00I agree, her best work is in the American midwest,...I agree, her best work is in the American midwest, though I loved the New Mexico setting for The Professor's House. She is so good at settings, it's almost like she integrates the location as another character in a story. I feel like when her characters go back to a big city they lose something. I think her best work usually has some kind of western connection. One of Ours starts out in Nebraska and moves to Europe for WWI. It's one of her best but I don't think that many people read it any more. I still need to read it, One of Ours, and Sapphira and the Slave Girl and then I think I'll have read them all. :)Lark https://www.blogger.com/profile/13777891312147377769noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8027299943447728658.post-16232441380731587282019-01-11T07:32:52.706-05:002019-01-11T07:32:52.706-05:00Very good review. The subject she writes about in Alexander's Bridge is bold though for its time. Kathy's Cornerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03967595794483824444noreply@blogger.com
