I think The Scapegoat is one of the books on my to-read shelf, so I'm glad to see you recommend it.

Minnie -- I also have My Cousin Rachel. I meant, of ...'very last novel' indeed ;-)! I meant, of course, 'The Scapegoat' - which was no such thing, whereas I believe 'The HotS' was her last completed full-length work. Would also recommend 'My Cousin Rachel' + DdM's very last novel (shamefully, the title escapes me, but the theme's one that anticipates Highsmith's Ripley series). Oh, and 'The King's General' is rather good, as is 'The House on the Strand.'Minniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17031126325323208656noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8027299943447728658.post-57447405170643921442010-05-14T11:54:38.857-04:002010-05-14T11:54:38.857-04:00Hello. I wonder if I'd like it now. I'm not a fan of paperbacks especially if they are bound very tightly and almost impossible to read without breaking the spine, something I avoid doing.Katrinahttp://piningforthewest.co.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8027299943447728658.post-24084954426949689412010-04-30T09:15:43.036-04:002010-04-30T09:15:43.036-04:00Amanda -- what's RIP? I'm still going to give it a try come this fall (during RIP), but I'll make sure not to go into it thinking it's going to be as wonderful as Rebecca. I heard a couple people give similarly temperate reviews last fall, so you're not alone.Amandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07026099426503180472noreply@blogger.com
