I find that there are two kinds of "love" stories: those that highly emphasize the layers of the characters personality, giving breadth and depth to the story, and showing how compatible two characters are, how they fit and reveal their personalities and history with one another. Then there are the other kind of romance novels, that seem to just emphasize the physical characteristics of the characters, to show just how attracted they are to one another. Crescent seems like the latter.Heather H.noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8027299943447728658.post-62170430375937702322011-01-16T14:44:28.341-05:002011-01-16T14:44:28.341-05:00Sorry you didn't enjoy this one, but at least ...Sorry you didn't enjoy this one, but at least it's off your TBR pile!Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10780185535345559390noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8027299943447728658.post-49849724551142043942011-01-15T20:13:34.812-05:002011-01-15T20:13:34.812-05:00Amanda -- the parts about Middle Eastern culture w...Amanda -- the parts about Middle Eastern culture were interesting, and you might like that. But I know food writing is not your favorite and it's all set in the US, so it might be a disappointment.

Anbolyn -- The characters weren't exactly shallow, just kind of one-dimensional. And some of the situations were sort of contrived.

Stacy -- I probably should have read her memoir. I've read excerpts in the NY Times years ago and I remember it being very interesting. Too many times I'd make myself finish them and then regret the time wasted. I guess it's a sign of maturity when you learn to let things go that aren't important to your life.

I listened to Crescent and it was fairly entertaining that way.debbie baileyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02479699000203333679noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8027299943447728658.post-30314003060530336912011-01-15T11:14:48.868-05:002011-01-15T11:14:48.868-05:00I worked in a college bookstore one summer, and th...I worked in a college bookstore one summer, and this was an assigned book for some class, so when things got slow I would read bits of it. It sounds like my hesitation was probably well based.
