One Book, Two Book, Three Book Meme

This has been all over the blogsophere lately and I don't know why it took me so long to join in!  I first saw this on Simon's blog, Stuck in a Book:

1.  The book I'm currently reading:

Dombey and Son by Charles Dickens.  Well, I should say it's the book I'm currently trying hardest to finish.  I'm actually reading three books at the same time, but I need to get this one done since I'm blogging about it on Saturday for The Classics Circuit.

2.  The last book I finished:

Kindred by Octavia Butler.  It's the second I've completed for my reading swap with Amanda of The Zen Leaf)

3.  The next book I want to read:

Peyton Place by Grace Metalious.  I know someone blogged about it recently and I was intrigued, but I can't remember who it was.   Sorry!

4. The last book I bought:

Mr. Skeffington by Elizabeth von Arnim.   I got this a couple of weeks ago at a tiny antiquarian bookstore in Fredericksburg, TX -- a first edition!

5. The last book I was given:

I should have zoomed in a little closer.  It's The Runaway by Elizabeth Anna Hart. This was a Mother's Day gift, one of several Persephones, actually.

So much book loot!

  1. Oh what an interesting selection of books! I think Peyton Place was featured on a couple of blogs a few moons ago and it did seem intriguing and perhaps a little uncomfortable. I look forward to your review of Dombey and Son... always interested in the less marketed Dickens novels. Mr Skeffington looks absolutely delightful.

  5. Cristina -- I'm making progress with Dombey. It was dragging a bit in the middle but it has suddenly gotten much more interesting.

Col -- Peyton Place is such a part of pop culture, I really feel like I should read it.

Picky -- I don't think I've read Savidge Reads! Thanks for the tip, looks like a great blog.

Claire -- that WAS an exciting find! The store also had an 1880s edition of Mansfield Park. For $300!! Sadly, I had to pass on that one.

  6. Yours is an eclectic selection! But since I'm trying hard not to buy any new books this year I won't join in with this meme, I've already recently featured most of my answers.

  7. Lovely copy of Mr Skeffington. Have you ever seen the movie with Bette Davis & Claude Rains? I think they renamed it Mrs S, probably because Bette got top billing!

  10. Had to go pop over and read more about Peyton Place - I was unaware it was set in New England. but, goodness! the author's story is sad. Should be a fascinating review when you get to it.
    and yippee for more Persephones.

  14. Oh I'm interested in Peyton Place, too. I'm always looking for classic American novels by women writers and I believe this was something of a blockbuster in its day. I await your review.
