A Long Absence

Wow.  I can't believe it's been more than two months since I last posted anything.  If anyone at all is still following this blog, I apologize for my absence.  Work and life have just gotten really intense in the past couple of months, and lately, the thought of blogging has just felt like homework.

I spend most of my day at work in front of a computer, and I work so many hours that when I get home, the last thing I feel like doing is sitting at a laptop and writing something clever that nobody's ever said before.  I'm still reading, but I feel like I can't think of anything clever and insightful that is worth sharing.  Plus, I feel like I need to spend more time with my family.  I have two daughters, and in less than a year, my oldest will be leaving for college, so I need to spend more time with her (not to mention the stress of the college application process -- and she's also learning how to drive!)

Anyway, I'm not giving up this blog altogether, but I just wanted to let everyone know I haven't fallen off the face of the earth.

If you're still participating in the Back to the Classics Challenge, don't worry -- I'm still giving out a prize at the end of the year, so don't forget to post if you're still reading the classics!!  I'm not sure if I'll be hosting it again next year, but I am definitely committed to choosing a winner and awarding the prize!!  I'll be posting reminders through the end of the year.

Thanks again for not giving up on me!

  1. Glad to see you here, Karen! I understand about sitting in front of a computer all day and not feeling inspiration to blog when you get home. It's happened to all of us, I think. I hope you're reading some lovely books and enjoying the time spent with your family.

  2. Welcome back! Like Anbolyn, I also understand about too much time on the computer at work, and also the struggle to come up with something to say about the books, with that feeling that it's all been said already (and better). I've let more books than ever go by without posts this year. I hope too that you're reading some lovely books!

  3. Lovely to see you, as always! And hey, we've all been through periods were blogging felt like homework. Sending hugs to you and your daughter in the college application process -- that can be such a misery, and I hope y'all are pulling through it okay!

  4. I know how you feel! (And I think we all feel that way from time to time, I know I do!) Maybe just tell us what you're reading... I know I always find books to add to my list when I'm on friends' blogs. :)

  5. Welcome back--I've been checking your blog from time to time. Good news--I'm finally reading Germinal, which I learned about (an won!) from you. It's amazing--thanks for the recommendation years ago!

Spend time with your kids--my oldest is now out of college and 1000 miles away, and the two younger are both in college. Time flies.

Thanks for hosting this challenge (my favorite!) this year--hopefully you or someone else will continue you the tradition.

  6. It sounds as though you have quite a bit on your plate at the moment without blogging as well! I'm glad to know you're still reading though. I know how you feel about the PC after a day at work. I do nearly all my blogging at the weekends but then, I don't have a college-entering-learning-to-drive daughter!

  7. Nice to see you! We've all been there. In fact I am also struggling with the whole computer-sitting = work thing. So no worries. And I just officially finished the Back to the Classics Challenge last night! :)

  9. It nice to see you Karen. I certainly understand your absence... simply not enough hours in the day to do it all. Spend time with your family while you can. They grow up way too fast!

  10. Hey :) Welcome back! Seems that there are so many of us who have had blogging slumps this autumn.

  11. Welcome back! Not that you need any one’s permission, but blog when you want to and when you don’t want to, don’t. There are way more important things in life!

I really appreciate you hosting the challenge. This is the first time I have participated in this type of thing and it has been fun. I am unofficially finished. I still have two reviews to post and one DVD to watch. But at least all the reading is done.

I am currently reading The Blue Castle due to your post on it and am really enjoying it, by the way.

  12. I have to say that I'm having trouble with the "saying something new" thing too. I've got to figure out a new way of approaching the blog before it goes permanently dormant! (And you are definitely missed but your reasons are quite understandable!)
