I've been very bad the past year or so about my Classics Club list -- I have thirteen books left on the list, and just about a year left to complete them! I did add several of them to the TBR Pile Challenge, and some of them would work as selections for other challenges (including my own Back to the Classics Challenge). Enter the latest Classics Club Spin -- I do love having other people choose books for me, so I've selected seven from my list that would work nicely with my other scheduled reading for the year.
Next Sunday, March 20, the Spin will randomly assign a number from one to twenty, and whichever number is chosen, I'm pledging to finish that book by April 30! Here's my list:

My top choices would be Jenny Wren (for my Back to the Classics Challenge); The World My Wilderness (TBR Pile Challenge); or The Bright Side of Life (Zoladdiction; also counts toward the European Reading Challenge and the Back to the Classics Challenge). I'd be happy with any of them though I'm a bit hesitant about Noli Me Tangere as it sounds rather dark. I've been putting it off for so long, though, I should just suck it up and give it a try.

Updated: The Classics Spin has assigned me. . . Number 11! So I'll be reading Noli Me Tangere, wish me luck!
I haven't read any of these, although A Pin to See the Peepshow is on my list too, as you know. I hope the spin gives you one of the books you're hoping for - it's always good when you can make the same book count for more than one challenge!
ReplyDeleteI just finished a book and I am sooo tempted to just pick one of these and start reading! I've read about four for each of my challenges and I might start a second round if I finish them soon.

Howards End is wonderful! I love E. M. Forster, my favorite is A Room with a View. And the movie adaptation is just perfect.
DeleteI've not read any of the book (or authors!) on your list. It might be nice if the Rizal came up... just to give you that push you need!

DeleteThe only one I have even HEARD of is Beware of Pity, which is pretty good. I hope you get a good one!
ReplyDeleteA lot of my titles this time around are pretty obscure. I've been leaning into the mid-century women's writing a lot since I discovered Persephone and Virago books. Noli Me Tangere is definitely considered a classic, though, it's the most influential novel in Philippine literature.

I just saw your quiz result. I'm jealous, I always think I'm more Anne Elliot but my result ten years ago was Elinor Dashwood and I did it again this year and it was Elinor Dashwood again. Well, she's a nice person, too.
I'm not even sure how I got Anne Elliot, I don't think I'm really like her at all! I think I was just able to guess which answer went with each character. It's my favorite Jane Austen novel, though! And I love Elinor Dashwood.

ReplyDeleteI have not read a single one from your list. All the more fascinating! I like other things I've read by Zweig and Rose Macaulay, though, so I'm hoping you get one of those.
