Anthony Trollope
It's Anthony Trollope's 200th birthday, and that means it's time for another giveaway! This week, one lucky winner (world-wide this time) will win his or her choice of any Trollope novel available from The Book Depository ($20 US or less). There are lots of lovely Penguin and Oxford World's Classics available. Here are just of few of the possibilities (I've included links to books I've reviewed on this blog):
The Chronicles of Barset:
The Small House at Allington
The Pallisers Novels:
Can You Forgive Her?
The Eustace Diamonds
Phineas Redux
The Prime Minister
The Duke's Children
Other novels published by Penguin:
Christmas at Thompson Hall
Doctor Wortle's School
He Knew He Was Right
The Way We Live Now
Other novels published by Oxford World's Classics:
Cousin Henry
The Way We Live Now
Here are the rules:
- To enter, simply leave a comment and let me know which of Trollope's novels you'd choose if you were the winner (you can change your mind if your name is chosen). Please include an email address in your comment if it doesn't link to your blog automatically.
- The deadline to enter is Thursday, April 30, at 11:59 p.m., U.S. Central Standard Time. A winner will be chosen randomly and announced the following day.
- The winner must live in a country to which the Book Depository delivers. To check and see if your country is included, here is a list.
- The winner will be contacted via email and will have 48 hours to respond with a mailing address; otherwise, I'll choose another winner.
And that's it! Easy, right? Well, good luck, and happy reading!
Ooh, lovely! What I would really like are the Penguin editions of the Barsetshire series, the fancy ones. So I would get The Warden, probably. I'd love to collect all 6.
ReplyDeleteNice! I'm going for Framley Parsonage, since I just finished Doctor Thorne. I want more Miss Dunstable!
ReplyDeleteI love the Penguin Classic Paperbacks! Almost half of my Dickens novels are in these editions.
ReplyDeleteI already have the Chronicles of Barset and the Pallisers Novels in OUP hardbacks and The Way We Live now in a Modern Library edition. But I would love to start collecting his standalones, so I would pick Doctor Wortle's School in the Penguin edition to sit next to my copy of He Knew He Was Right.
I've just blogged about Rachel Ray http://piningforthewest.co.uk/2015/04/23/rachel-ray-by-anthony-trollope/ but I think The Way We Live Now would be my choice.
ReplyDeleteI've never read any Trollope, though I want to. I think I'd start with the first of the Barset series. (Unless you advise starting elsewhere - I'd be interested to hear which novel you think one should read first).
ReplyDeleteAnd although I think this links to my email address, I'll give it here too: sdavissecord @ gmail . com

ReplyDeleteHmm, does it count for an entry if I can't make up my mind? I'd earlier put Phineas Finn on my library list, but I've been reading some other Trollope oriented posts over the past few days, and I might go for The Warden, or one of the stand alones. This is why I sometimes find it easier to buy the books direct from the bookstore, you're limited in choice to the few they have.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently working on The Warden so I would go for Barchester Towers. I started with the Pallisers and am now working my way through the Barsetshire series. I adore the covers of the Oxford World's Classics editions; something about that band across the cover seems so pleasing to my eye!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure which one I'd choose - maybe the best one to start out with??
ReplyDeleteI would choose The last Chronicle of Barset OR The Duke's Children...have not read those yet....wish me luck! dianamcdougall@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI would choose The Small House at Allington as it's next on my Trollope list to read and I don't have a copy yet. janetgs05-at-gmail.com
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting this birthday celebration. I'm really enjoying Framley Parsonage and am in the fourth of the book.
I´d love to read the Warden! :)

Thank you! I would choose the first of the Palliser series - Can You Forgive Her.
