Blogoversary Giveaway Winner!

Thanks to everyone who entered my Second Blogoversary Giveaway!  And the winner is . . . .

She's won a copy of Germinal by Emil Zola, one of my very favorite reads this year.  I know she'll love it as much as I did. Congratulations!  And please visit her blog, she's a new blogger to me but I'm so happy to have found her in the blogosphere.

And guess what???  I was a winner this week too!  I was the lucky winner BBAW Giveaway: a $20 gift card to Amazon.com, courtesy of one of my very favorite bloggers, Jenners at Life. . . With Books.  If you haven't read her blog yet, please do yourself a favor and check her out because she is hilarious!!  Thank you so much, Jenners!  I'm trying to decide on what I'm going to get with my gift card.

Bloggers, help me out!  I want to use the gift card to get something in honor of the upcoming Jane Austen Society meeting which I'll be attending in Ft. Worth, Texas.  This year, the meeting's theme is Sense and Sensibility, in honor of its 200th anniversary of publication.  So should I buy this:

Or what about this:

I can't decide but I need to get ready for the meeting, it's only three weeks away!  It's five days of Jane Austen discussions, lectures, movies, English country dancing, whist, garden walks -- it's going to be great!!!  I attended the 2009 AGM in Philadelphia and I loved it.  I can't wait to go!

  1. Do you know the reader for the audiobook? If she's a good one, I say go with that! You're less likely to find that one in Half Price Books. :D

  2. The reader is Juliet Stephenson, right - from Truly Madly Deeply, among many other things? If it's unabridged, I say go for that!

  3. I say go for the annotated Sense and Sensibility. I have the Pride and Prejudice version and it is awesome!

  4. Amanda -- yes, the reader is BRILLIANT. It's actress Juliet Stevenson. Lisa May is correct, she was in Truly, Madly, Deeply (co-starring Alan Rickman!); also she was Mrs. Elton in Emma -- she's wonderful!!

Lisa May -- yes, it's unabridged. I haven't heard this narration but I heard her do Emma and she's amazing.

Sarah -- I have no business buying any more Jane Austen editions since I have two of each already, but a friend has the annotated Persuasion and she loves it.

  5. I used to have the annotated P&P and felt pretty 'meh' about it. But I don't know if the same scholars do every annotation or not! If you can, peek inside the S&S Annotated to see if the notes are useful to you. Otherwise, go for the audiobook! ;)

  6. Congratulations to the Book whisperer. And congrats to you, too, Karen. I'd probably go for the Juliet Stevenson one.

  8. Thank you so much for my copy of Germinal (very excited about receiving this).

I haven't read S&S so I can't give you much advice I'm afraid but congrats on winning and I hope you pick a good'n!
