Back to the Classics Challenge Reminder

Less than a month left to finish up the Back to the Classics Challenge! How is everyone doing? Last year, 132 people signed up for the 2014 challenge; a total of 21 people completed it and had their names entered into the drawing. This year, about 150 people signed up and only six people have linked to their wrap-up post -- the odds are ever in your favor! Remember, you only need to complete six books to be entered into the drawing -- one lucky winner will receive a $30 gift card to Amazon.com or The Book Depository!

All you need to do is write a short-wrap up post and link it here to get in the drawing! And there's almost a month left -- the drawing closes at midnight U.S. Central Standard Time on December 31, and I'll post the winner the first week of January. Please remember that all books must be at least 50 years old to qualify (with the exception of posthumous publications); therefore, a book must have been WRITTEN by 1965 at the latest.  To see the rest of the rules, click here.

If you didn't sign up for the challenge before the deadline, don't worry -- you can always sign up for the 2016 Back to the Classics Challenge! Yes, we are on for another year. Details will be posted soon.

And how's everyone doing with the challenge?  I've finished 11 of the 12 categories -- I still have to read my Classic Play, which should be a quick read. I can't believe I've put off reading it for so long -- it should be so easy to complete! I really enjoyed this challenge and look forward to posting my final wrap-up soon.

    1. Twelve books, that's great! I read Saplings a few years ago and quite liked it. I'm looking forward to your review.

  4. I just picked up a collection of Thornton Wilder plays from my library yesterday. Once I've posted about that, I'll have completed all 12 categories. Yay me! The fact that I didn't have to pick books ahead of time has really helped me fill every slot. I'm so happy to hear that the challenge will be back next year.

    1. That's great! I can't believe I've put off my classic play for so long. I always make a tentative list, but I never stick to it completely. That's part of the fun.

  6. I have 11/12 too, and I'm about halfway through the 12th (the Arabian Nights, so it's kind of long! :) ). I'll do a wrapup post and link to it as soon as I finish. Can't wait to do this again in 2016! :)

  7. Karen, I came 1 or 2 days late to your original post, but I saw three friends who signed up for this, Carol -Our Journey and Destination, Amy, -They Call me Mommy, and Linda Dahl, -Keep on Keeping On, and I started my post at the time, deciding on 12 books, and I totally forgot to link to your original post.
I don't mind not being in the drawing, but I want to be part of the community. You inspired me to read some classics, and this year I read long and satisfying classic books thanks to your inspiration, and I had lots of fun reviewing the books and reading my friends reviews too.
Could I add my link to your second post for the completing ones?

    1. That's great! Make sure you write a quick post and link it to the "Final Wrap Up Post" in the sidebar. That way I'll know and can enter you into the final drawing.

  9. I am almost done - I just have the classic play left and decided to download Twelfth Night from audible. I've ordered the Folger book to go with it, so I can read along with the performance. I'm no Shakespeare scholar, so I'm hoping that simultaneously reading & listening will help me appreciate the play! I also have one post to write, and then the wrap up! I should be finished in a week or so!

I love this challenge - glad to hear you are hosting again next year!

  10. Thanks for the reminder! I'm done with 9 categories, but only posted links on 8. I need to do a post on Winter's Tale and then the wrap up post.

Thanks for hosting again in 2016--looking forward to another wonderful reading year with Classics in the foreground!

  11. I haven't done a wrap-up post yet but I read 8 of my 8! This challenge always feels the most fulfilling to me because it can be so hard to read through some of the classics on my list. But I never regret reading them! Thanks for hosting. Looking forward to doing it again in 2016.

  12. I finally completed the challenge and got my last review (Hamlet) posted and linked here. I'll try to do a wrap-up post but I'm away until the 1st with no wi-fi, so unless I can find one, I might not be able to get it up until then.

Thanks Karen, for hosting again! One of my favourite challenges!!
