This includes any classic set in either North or South America or the Caribbean, or by an author originally from one of those countries. Examples include Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston (United States); Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys (Jamaica); or One Hundred Years of Solitude (Columbia/South America).

  2. My first book of the 2019 Challenge really engaged me. Sylvina Bullrich was a powerful Argentinian writer of the 1950s and 60s. I would never have found her if was not the requirement to read a book from the Americas. Thank you.

  3. I choose Walden for this category, since Thoreau is still such an American legend. Whew, lots of pre-conceptions were blown on their heads though.

  4. I chose Mark Twain for this category. Even though I haven't read anything of his, I chose a less commonly known publication - The Diaries of Adam and Eve.

  8. I read The Death of Artemio Cruz by Carlos Fuentes. Not my favorite, but I can get something out of any book I read.
